I began writing when I was about seven and used to make up stories about the teachers at school
to entertain my friends. I really enjoyed making people laugh,
and it’s been my main object in life ever since.
I’ve had various short stories and humorous pieces in magazines and on the radio, and, more recently, in the Oxpens Collections A Sixpenny Debt and Other Oxford Stories, The Lost College and Other Oxford Stories. and The Bodleian Murders and Other Oxford Stories. My first novel, A Proper Family Christmas, first published 2005, was republished under the OxPens imprint in 2007 and is now also available as an ebook on Kindle. I'm working on a new novel 'A Real Family Holiday' set in a beautiful Dower House attached to a stately home. See 'Another Book Another House'. Meanwhile I have published The Haunted Bridge and Other Strange Tales of the Oxford Canal, a collection of short stories set on the south Oxford Canal. |
In a complete change of direction I have been planning a biography of my grandparents, Sir William Gordon-Cumming of the notorious 1891 Baccarat Scandal, and Florence Garner, the young American heiress who stood by him in his disgrace. I'm delighted to say that my proposal has won the Biographers' Club's Tony Lothian Prize for first time uncommissioned biographers.
I post writing news to the Romantic Novelists' Association blog, the Transita Authors blog and I'm privileged to contribute occasionally to Alan Burnett's witty and amusing 'News from Nowhere'.
I am Deputy Treasurer of the Romantic Novelists Association, and my short story 'Taking Life Seriously' is in their anthology Loves Me, Loves Me Not published by Harlequin Mills & Boon (see link below.)
I am Secretary and founder member of the Oxford Writers’ Group. You can read more about them and A Bit More About Me and my interest in archeology, canals and choirs, by clicking on the links.
